A major component of our business strategy is the reduction of our environmental footprint through improvements to asset performance and the adoption of the highest environmental standards across our sites. We undertake routine monitoring to measure our environmental performance and implement strategies to minimise any adverse effects.
Our environmental monitoring outcomes are contained within our Annual Report and the Commonwealth Department for Environment website.
Our Environmental Management System (EMS) is certified to the international environmental systems standard ISO14001. It provides a process by which environmental issues are identified and managed, and our Environmental Policy is implemented. Our EMS is part of our overarching Business Management System that ensures integration of processes and supporting documentation.
We have developed a Climate Change Strategy to ensure we position both existing and future generation assets to withstand the potential climate change impacts.
The reduction of CO2 emissions from power generation, while delivering against a growing demand for baseload electricity, is recognised globally, and is supported by our commitment to developing low emission generation technology. Our involvement in feasibility studies for the Wandoan Power Project and Burdekin Hydro demonstrate this commitment.
In addition to implementing substantial efficiency improvements across our sites as part of the Commonwealth Generating Efficiency Standards program, we have developed and launched the EcoChoices program—an initiative to reduce and offset our environmental footprint from the non-production aspects of our business, including electricity, water and resource use within our offices, and air and car travel.
