Stanwell has two gas-fired power stations,
Swanbank E Power Station near Ipswich and
Mica Creek Power Station near Mount Isa.
Gas is delivered to the 385 megawatt (MW) Swanbank E via the Roma to Brisbane Pipeline, while Mica Creek sources gas from Santos' south-west Queensland fields via the Carpentaria Gas Pipeline.
The coal-fired Swanbank B uses landfill gas as a supplementary fuel, piped from Thiess Services' Swanbank Landfill.
The 34 MW Mackay Gas Turbine is diesel oil-fuelled plant used in high demand periods.
Ownership of Swanbank E and Mica Creek power stations was transferred to Stanwell from CS Energy on 1 July 2011 as a result of the Queensland Government owned generator restructure.
