The 34 MW Mackay Gas Turbine is a remote controlled generator using diesel oil for fuel. Two jet engines, similar to those found in the Concorde aircraft, create the energy to rotate the power turbines.
Stanwell relies on the gas turbine to generate electricity in periods of high customer demand, and generally operates the plant for short periods. The turbine has a quick-start capability and therefore plays an important role in ensuring a secure supply of electricity for customers.
