Meandu Mine

Meandu Mine was bought from Rio Tinto Coal Australia (RTCA) in February 2008 to secure a long-term fuel source for the Tarong and Tarong North power stations. Thiess Pty Limited, an experienced contract mining operator, is engaged to operate the mine on behalf of Stanwell.

Meandu Mine supplies up to seven million tonnes of coal per year to the adjacent Tarong power stations, with sufficient coal to fuel the stations until at least 2025.

The overarching objective of mine operations is to ensure the environmentally responsible delivery of coal to meet the quality and quantity requirements of the power stations.
