South Burnett businesses will receive more than $500,000 from a 17-day overhaul at the Tarong North Power Station, which began earlier this month.
The money will go to motels and caterers in Yarraman, Nanango and Kingaroy which are providing beds and food for nearly 230 contractors up until 19 May.
“This $8 million mini-overhaul, along with the annual $20 million major overhaul at Tarong Power Station, is good news for the region,” Site Manager Tarong Dennis Franklin said.
“We use specialised contractors who need to be housed and fed while they do repairs and maintenance to the generation units which produce electricity for Queensland,” Mr Franklin said.
“They also ensure that the units operate efficiently and safely until the next scheduled overhaul,” he said.
The Tarong site consists of Tarong Power Station, which has four generation units, Tarong North Power Station, which has one generation unit, and Meandu Mine.
Each of the five Tarong units has a major overhaul every four years and Tarong North has a mini overhaul after two years.
Major overhauls can provide even greater benefits for the community with up to 600 contractors staying locally from just a few days to several months.
“The South Burnett community knows about the full-time jobs that the Tarong Power Stations and Meandu Mine provide but overhauls also give a big economic boost,” Dennis Franklin said.
