Stanwell bids its available generating capacity into the
National Electricity Market (NEM), a wholesale market for
the supply and purchase of electricity. The energy output
from all power generators is dispatched into a central pool.
Electricity generators compete for the right to generate electricity
into the pool by submitting competitive price bids to supply
nominated quantities of generation in certain timeslots throughout
the day.
Stanwell sells the electricity from our power stations into
this market pool, and is paid according to the spot price
or existing hedge contracts with customers.
The NEM is managed by the National Electricity Market Management
Company (NEMMCO).
Stanwell's Trading Division manages the full
range of electricity market functions, including spot trading,
short and long term derivative dealing, green energy dealing,
economic and market forecasting, quantitative analysis, and
information technology.
