Stanwell’s new Mining Services Agreement (MSA) operator, Golding Contractors Pty Ltd, has commenced operations at Meandu Mine in the South Burnett region today.

Golding was awarded the Meandu Mine MSA in January 2026, following a comprehensive and competitive process conducted last year. A six-month transition from previous contractor BUMA Australia to Golding, has ensured continuity of operations and minimal disruption.

Stanwell Chief Operating Officer James Oliver said Stanwell is pleased to be working alongside Golding to deliver strong long-term outcomes for Meandu Mine, the Tarong power stations and the South Burnett community.

“Meandu Mine is the sole coal supply source for the Tarong power stations and plays a critical role in Stanwell’s generation portfolio and continued delivery of affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for Queensland,” Mr Oliver said.

“Golding brings proven mining and maintenance capability across diverse mining operations, and we’re pleased to be working with them to continue to achieve safe, reliable and efficient operations at Meandu Mine.”

Meandu Mine General Manager Andrew Toms said he looked forward to working with Golding as the mine’s new Coal Mine Operator.

“The smooth transition has ensured continuity for the Meandu workforce, with all BUMA employees covered under the Meandu Mine Enterprise Agreement and the majority of BUMA staff offered the opportunity to transfer to Golding under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth)." Mr Toms said.

“I want to thank the workforce for their continued hard work, dedication and commitment during this transition and look forward to seeing them onsite, just with different coloured PPE and logo.

“I also want to thank BUMA Australia for their service over the past six years and acknowledge their valuable contribution to Meandu Mine and the South Burnett region.”

Golding Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Caton said Golding looks forward to commencing operations at Meandu Mine and building a strong, enduring partnership with Stanwell and the local community.

The new MSA will retain Stanwell’s alliance-style operating model, where Stanwell maintains ownership and strategic control over mine planning and equipment, partnering with a contractor to deliver operational services.

Following the recent Commonwealth and State approvals of the King2East Project and the 21-year mining lease renewal, Meandu Mine will continue to supply coal to the Tarong power stations for many years to come.
