Mega deliveries on the way for Stanwell’s mega battery!

The Stanwell Power Station site is gearing up for the first of our big battery’s Megapack 2XL units to begin arriving from next week (24 June). With each lithium-ion Megapack weighing in at a hefty 38 tonnes and the length the size of a city bus, it’s going to be quite the sight, seeing 324 of them arrive by the truckload to the battery site over the next few months. They’ll making the journey from Brisbane to Stanwell via the Bruce Highway, Capricorn Highway and then onto Power Station Road, with up to ten deliveries a day rolling in on drop-deck semi-trailers. By September, all Megapacks will have been delivered to their new home and will be kept in shipping mode —a kind of deep sleep—for safety and preservation until we wake them up for commissioning in November. Until then, they’ll be stored safely, waiting to power up and play their important part in Queensland’s energy future. This is more than just a large logistics operation—it’s a significant milestone in Stanwell’s energy diversification and every Megapack that arrives brings us one step closer. At 300 MW of energy for up to four hours duration (1200 MWh) – our mega battery will be one of the largest in Queensland and is a cornerstone of our shift toward cleaner, more flexible energy. The Megapacks are being installed by Yurika, a Queensland government-owned company supported by several local contractors and around 80 jobs are being created during the project’s construction. The Stanwell Battery is scheduled to commence supplying electricity into the grid, as needed, in May 2027. So, keep an eye out, stay safe around increased vehicle movements, and take a moment to appreciate the size and scale of what we’re building together.
