Fire hose reels from Stanwell Power Station, once destined for retirement, are now finding a renewed purpose in protecting local communities.

During a recent inspection of fire hose reels across the station, the team identified a number that needed replacing.

Instead of letting the old reels gather dust or head to landfill, Stanwell donated them to local community groups, with a special focus on rural fire brigades powered by hardworking volunteers from nearby towns.

Greg Heath, President of the Kalapa Hall and Sports Committee, played a key role in this initiative, collecting the retired reels from Stanwell Power Station to ensure they continue serving the community once they have been restored to a serviceable condition.

Through redistribution, these reels will soon make a positive impact at the following locations:

  • Ridgelands Hall

  • Ridgelands Fire Brigade

  • Westwood Hall

  • Westwood Fire Brigade

  • Wycarbah Hall

  • Stanwell Hall

  • Stanwell Fire Brigade

  • Kalapa Hall

  • Kalapa Fire Brigade

  • Cockscomb Veterans Retreat

This program ensures valuable equipment is kept within the community, strengthening support for local halls and rural fire brigades and giving fire hose reels a new lease on life.

Over the coming months a total of 75 reels will be replaced.
