Stanwell announces successful tenderer for mining services at Meandu Mine

Stanwell Corporation has today announced the outcome of its market tender process for the Mining Services Agreement (MSA) at Meandu Mine, located in the South Burnett region.
Following a comprehensive and competitive process conducted between July and December 2025, Golding Contractors Pty Ltd (Golding) has been selected as the successful tenderer to operate Meandu Mine under a new MSA commencing 1 July 2026.
The decision follows Stanwell’s standard commercial practice to review and tender major contracts at appropriate intervals. The current MSA, which was awarded to Downer in 2020 and transferred to BUMA Australia in 2021, will conclude on 30 June 2026.
Stanwell Acting Chief Executive Officer James Oliver said the tender process was designed to ensure the best long-term outcomes for the mine, the Tarong power stations, and the South Burnett community.
“Meandu Mine plays a critical role in supplying coal to our Tarong power stations, and we remain committed to maintaining safe, reliable operations and supporting local employment and businesses,” Mr Oliver said.
“We thank BUMA Australia for their service over the past five years and acknowledge their contribution to the region. We will continue to work with BUMA and Golding as the new contractor as we transition to the new agreement.”
Golding is a subsidiary of NRW Holdings. NRW’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Pemberton said the award is reflective of Goldings’ excellent reputation for the delivery of safe and efficient contract mining services.
“We look forward to welcoming the approximately 400 local employees to the NRW family and to providing them with a safe and positive workplace,” Mr Pemberton said.
“Golding and the broader NRW Group look forward to a long and successful partnership with TEC Coal and Stanwell.”
Stanwell will now commence a six-month transition and mobilisation period with the incoming contractor to ensure continuity of operations and minimal disruption to the workforce and community.
The new MSA will retain Stanwell’s alliance-style operating model, where Stanwell maintains ownership and strategic control over mine planning and equipment, partnering with a contractor to deliver operational services.
Meandu Mine will continue to supply coal to the Tarong power stations through to at least 2035, supported by ongoing exploration and the proposed King 2 East expansion project.
