Stanwell’s Senior Sourcing Specialist Kylie O'Donohue and Principal Performance Engineer Trevor Johnsonare gearing up for an electrifying experience as they represent Australia at Masters Hockey World Cup tournaments in August.

Their stories, both on and off the field, showcase not only their sporting prowess, but also the vibrant spirit that powers Stanwell.

Kylie’s selection for the Over-45s Women’s Team at the World Cup in the Netherlands is a testament to years of dedication, resilience, and love for hockey.

Last October, her Queensland Over-45s team claimed gold at the National Championships in Hobart, and Kylie said she is excited at the prospect of representing Australia at the World Cup.

“To stand alongside other passionate and talented ladies, including some of my very good friends – and to do so on a global stage – is an honour,” Kylie said.

“This will also be an opportunity to visit a new country, and to take my family along with me to share in the experience.

“Being able to combine sport, friends, travel and family makes this even more special,” she explained.

Hockey has been part of Kylie’s life since the age of 12, and she loves the way it brings people together, fosters growth and confidence, and challenges her with highly strategic gameplay.

Her decorated sporting CV includes representing Australia in the Over 35s at the Trans-Tasman tournament in New Zealand in 2017, the World Cup in Spain in 2018, and the Trans-Tasman tournament on the Gold Coast in 2019. She was also selected for the Australian Over-35s squad to play in Nottingham in 2020, though the event was cancelled due to Covid.

Off the field, Kylie is also energising her home life. She recently obtained her Owner Builder’s licence and is in the process of raising and building underneath her house.

Trevor Johnson in action for Queensland at the Australian championships.

Following a standout performance at the Australian Masters Championships in Newcastle last October, Trevor Johnson was selected to play for the Southern Cross Over 60s at the World Cup.

He’ll face fierce competition from teams across Belgium, England, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland and South Africa.

This marks Trevor’s first selection at an international level, and he’s buzzing with excitement.

“I started playing hockey when I was eight, so it’s been a lifelong love of the sport that anyone can play,” Trevor explained.

“Masters start at over 35, with the oldest competitive age group being over 80 years.

“I first played Masters for Queensland in 2010 and have been to most of the Australian championships since then, though a couple were cancelled in 2020-21 due to Covid.

“It has been a great way to tour the country, having played in most states over the years. The competition is fierce on the field, and we enjoy celebrating the game in the hospitality tent afterwards,” he added.

This trip will be extra special, as Trevor’s wife Trudy (Site Services Superintendent at SPS) will join him. They plan to travel through France and Switzerland, and cruise the Rhine back to Amsterdam after the event.

Best of luck Kylie and Trevor – you have the power of all of Stanwell behind you!
