Applications for the next round of Tarong power stations’ Apprentice and Trainee program are now open.

Stanwell General Manager Southern Generation, Mick Joy said the program was one of Stanwell’s key pathways to building a skilled workforce that can support our power stations into the future.

“The program is designed to give jobseekers the skills and hands-on experience needed for a successful career in the energy industry while gaining their qualifications through TAFE,” Mr Joy said.

“Apprentices and trainees who begin at Tarong power stations will benefit from the guidance of our dedicated team of experienced mentors who are committed to supporting their professional growth and success throughout the program.

“They’ll join the 27 apprentices and trainees we currently have on site at Tarong power stations. Apprentices will spend four to six weeks a year studying at the TAFE Queensland Kingaroy campus and the remainder of their time will be spent onsite at Tarong power stations.”

First Year Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, Indy Eriksen says an apprenticeship with Stanwell is a great pathway for someone interested in working in a hands-on environment in the energy industry.

"Being a first-year apprentice, I've had a lot of questions, and no two days are the same. My workmates have been more than happy to take time out of their days, show me the ropes and encourage me to learn as much as I can.” Ms Eriksen said.

“We’ve also had a large cohort of female apprentices and trainees start this year, so we’ve really bonded together and supported one another, and the workplace has really welcomed that.”

“Before joining, I heard that Stanwell had a good working culture, but I’ve now experienced it for myself since starting.”

Stanwell is offering the following apprenticeships and traineeships: • Electrical Instrumentation Apprentice (Five years) • Mechanical Fitter Apprentice (Four years) • Laboratory Techniques Trainee (Three years) • Business Trainee (Two years) If you thrive in a team environment, are willing to learn and are passionate about kick-starting your career in the electricity generation industry, you could be part of our next Stanwell apprentice and trainee intake.

Applications are now open and will close on Sunday 20 July 2025.
