LOCKYER ENERGY PROJECT

Overview

The Lockyer Energy Project is a gas generation project located in the Lockyer Valley. It will initially provide about 120 MW of electricity generation (Stage 1) to meet peak demand, ensuring energy reliability.

The project is located 75km west of Brisbane near Gatton, adjacent to key existing infrastructure facilities, including gas and electricity transmission systems feeding the larger Brisbane metropolitan and outer urban regions.

Stanwell acquired the Lockyer Energy Project from Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners in 2025. It will add more fast-ramping dispatchable energy to Stanwell’s generation portfolio.

Location and technical details

The Lockyer Energy Project is located at the intersection of a major gas pipeline (Roma to Brisbane) which transports gas from the Wallumbilla gas hub to Brisbane and other regional centres and has the benefit of being a bi-directional pipeline which means it can transport gas in both directions as needed. It is near a 110 kV electricity network which is an energy distribution hub (see the site map below).

The final design and technical details for the gas turbine to be installed are being reviewed. The project will initially provide up to 150 MW of electricity generation (Stage 1) to meet peak demand, ensuring energy reliability and will have a projected operational life of 25 years.
