TARONG WEST WIND FARM
Overview
Tarong West Wind Farm is a development by RES, located within the South Burnett Regional Council area approximately 30km west of Kingaroy and 8km north-west of Kumbia. The Queensland Government announced in September 2022 that, subject to final approvals, the project would be built by Stanwell - making it the largest publicly owned wind farm in Australia.
Tarong West Wind Farm is being developed on the land of the Wakka Wakka and Auburn Hawkwood Peoples.

97 X 4.5 MW Vestas turbines are planned for the site with two transformers. The wind turbines are each up to 280m in height (base to tip).
The site is approximately 19,000ha of predominantly cleared, undulating farm land used predominately for grazing.
Project timeline
The Tarong West Wind Farm received development approval in July 2024. The project is expected to reach a Final Investment Decision in the first half of 2025, with construction commencing from 2025 and commercial operations targeted for 2027. Construction is anticipated to take 30 months.

Contact Stakeholder Engagement for Southern QueenslandThe project is expected to create approximately 200 direct jobs during construction and approximately 15 ongoing operational roles.
A Community Consultative Committee (CCC) will be involved with the project team in decision-making processes, including the project's community benefit program.
