Stanwell Battery Energy Storage System

STANWELL BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM

ICON BATTERY REVERSED

Overview

The Stanwell Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will provide essential firming capacity to support renewable energy projects planned for Central Queensland. With a capacity of 300 MW and four hours of storage, it is the largest committed battery project in Queensland.

The system is designed to charge when energy generation is high and discharge when demand is high or generation is low, helping maintain grid stability and reliability. It can cycle multiple times a day and respond within fractions of a second to changes in demand.

The BESS is being constructed onsite at Stanwell Power Station as part of our commitment to investing in new storage and firming technologies. A total of $747 million is being invested in the project.
