Bumper year for Stanwell coal combustion product utilisation
Bumper year for Stanwell coal combustion product utilisation

In 2025, Stanwell achieved one of its highest coal combustion product (CCP) offtakes, supplying large volumes to the cement, concrete and masonry markets.
This result reflects several years of sustained growth in CCP utilisation across Stanwell’s portfolio and reinforces Stanwell’s role in supporting circular economy outcomes in Queensland and highlights Stanwell’s position as a major contributor to beneficial CCP reuse.
Stanwell supplies hundreds of thousands of tonnes of CCPs into sustainable building products each year, supporting the circular economy, through reducing reliance on natural quarry materials and contributing to lower associated carbon emissions in construction supply chains.
CCPs – including fly ash, bottom ash and cenospheres – are byproducts of coalfired electricity production. When used in appropriate applications such as cement and concrete manufacture, construction materials and civil works, CCPs can displace virgin natural raw materials, reduce reliance on natural resources and form an important part of the circular economy.
CCPs from Stanwell’s power stations have recently been used in a number of projects including:
Glenmore Bulls purpose built women’s AFL facility foundations
a road construction project in Brisbane
Stanwell Battery pads
foundations for a large shed at SPS.
By increasing the volume of CCPs supplied to the market, Stanwell is reducing the amount of material requiring long term repository management and helping to keep valuable materials in productive use for longer. This approach supports more sustainable infrastructure outcomes while maintaining strong environmental and regulatory controls.
The 2025 result was supported by:
long-term strategic offtake arrangements with key customers,
targeted investment in CCP handling and load‑out infrastructure,
growing market acceptance of Stanwell CCPs, and
close coordination between operations, environment, commercial and growth teams.
Stanwell will continue to focus on responsible CCP management, strengthening circular economy outcomes, and identifying opportunities to increase beneficial reuse where it is technically, commercially and environmentally appropriate.
