Future in balance: SAMCo scholarship empowers aspiring accountant

Florence Irancamfise is turning ambition into action. With the support of the SAMCo Women in Renewable Energy Scholarship, Florence, a future accountant and mother of four, is determined to use her education to help businesses make better, more sustainable decisions.
The scholarship is supported by Stanwell Asset Maintenance Company (SAMCo), a Queensland-based provider of operations and maintenance services for clean energy generation and storage.
In partnership with QUT, this scholarship empowers women from diverse backgrounds to build lasting careers and lasting change in energy-aligned fields, paving the way for the next generation of smart, thoughtful leaders.
“Scholarships such as this one are often the critical difference between students being able to pursue their dreams or not,” says Mark Schroder, Development Manager at Advancement QUT. “When students from all backgrounds realise their potential, everyone benefits.”
To Florence Irancamfise, the scholarship means freedom to focus on her studies and unlock her potential.
“Receiving the scholarship has been life-changing,” she explains. “It’s not just financial support – it’s a powerful encouragement to pursue my goals in accounting and sustainability.”
Florence’s strong sense of responsibility led her to pursue a career in accounting. She says the role of an accountant is to help businesses make informed decisions.
Accountants ensure that businesses operate responsibly and plan for the future, which puts these expert organisers and analysts on the frontlines of proposed sustainability initiatives. It was a natural fit for Florence, a detail-oriented problem solver who enjoys working with numbers and reports.
“I find energy in learning – especially when I see how accounting principles apply to real-world decisions,” she enthuses.
Florence is keen to supplement her coursework with practical experience. Inspired by the connections she’s forged with industry professionals at Stanwell, she’s ready to take the next steps.
“Annie and Bella from Stanwell shared valuable advice, and their encouragement motivated me to pursue internships and build the skills that will support my future career,” she shares.
But Florence’s biggest motivation is her four children. She strives to be a role model for her children, to teach them to work hard and dream big.
“As a mother, I’m driven to show my children that with determination, anything is possible,” she says. “This scholarship has given me the opportunity to grow academically and to achieve my career goals.”
Florence hopes this scholarship will uplift and inspire other women to pursue their dreams as well.
She passes on her advice for other women who are weighing up studying or applying for scholarships.
“Reach out, ask questions and surround yourself with people who support your journey,” she encourages. “Don’t be scared to ask for help when you’re struggling. There is support available, and you’re not alone.”
“Scholarships like SAMCo are more than financial support. They recognise your passion, your goals, and your story.”
“Believe in your potential and don’t hesitate to apply.”
