Looking for a career energy boost? Stanwell calls for new apprentices and trainees

Applications for the next round of Stanwell Power Stations’ Apprentice and Trainee program are now open.
Stanwell General Manager Central Generation, Angie Zahra said the program is an important way to attract and train local, skilled workers who can support our power stations now and into the future.
“The program combines the opportunity for apprentices and trainees to secure their trade qualifications through TAFE Queensland at the Rockhampton Campus, while also gaining the skills and hands-on experience needed for a successful career in the energy industry,” Ms Zahra said.
“Every apprentice and trainee who joins our program also brings with them fresh energy and ideas. So, it's a two-way opportunity - while they learn from us, our people also grow from their curiosity, drive and perspective.
“We pride ourselves on the expertise of our dedicated people at Stanwell Power Station, and they play a big role in mentoring and supporting the professional growth and development of those coming through the program.”
First Year Electrical Instrumentation Apprentice, Amy Naish says coming into the industry as a 17-year-old female was daunting, but the team have done an amazing job at making her feel comfortable, welcomed and supported.
“The mentorship has been incredible. My colleagues are encouraging, patient and always open to questions, which you have a lot of when you’re starting out.” Ms Naish said.
“I’ve loved being involved in a range of projects, many of which have allowed me to be hands on while giving me a great visual representation of how things work throughout the plant.
“My experience has been even better than I thought it would be. I'd definitely recommend the program at Stanwell Power Station to anyone considering joining.”
Stanwell is offering the following apprenticeships and traineeships:
Electrical Instrumentation Apprenticeship (Five years)
Mechanical Fitter and Turner Apprenticeship (Four years)
Warehouse Trainee (Two years)
Business Trainee (Two years)
Ms Zahra also encouraged young people to consider Stanwell's’ Apprentice and Trainee Program.
“If you thrive in a team environment, are willing to learn and are passionate about kick-starting your career in the electricity generation industry, you could be part of our next Stanwell apprentice and trainee intake,” Ms Zahra said.
Applications are now open and will close on Friday, 1 August 2025.
