Wambo Wind Farm reaches major milestone with delivery of all turbines

All 83 turbines for Wambo Wind Farm are now on site in the Western Downs with delivery of the final 41 turbines for Stage 2 now complete.
The 500 MW project, jointly owned by Stanwell and Cubico Sustainable Investments is being built in two stages, with turbines from stage 1 already installed and producing energy into the grid as they are energised.
The completion of the Stage 2 deliveries marks the first step towards powering up the second stage of the project which will produce an additional 254 MW of renewable energy once operational, further strengthening Queensland’s clean energy capacity.
Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke said the milestone reflects the many years of hard work by everyone involved, including the joint venture’s project team and principal contractor Vestas.
“Moving 83 turbines across Queensland is no small feat,” Mr O’Rourke said.
“It requires an incredible amount of preparation, careful route planning and close collaboration between our delivery partners, local councils and communities. I want to thank everyone for their efforts and patience to get to this milestone.”
“With Stage 2 turbine deliveries now complete, construction of the remaining turbines will continue, followed by testing and commissioning.” he said.
“During this phase, turbines will undergo a rigorous series of performance and compliance tests to ensure they are operating safely, correctly and in line with regulatory requirements.”
Cubico Sustainable Investments Country Head of Australia David Smith thanked the local community and road users for their patience and cooperation throughout the delivery phase.
“The completion of deliveries marks a significant reduction in oversize and over-mass vehicle movements on local roads,” Mr Smith said.
“Stanwell and Cubico acknowledge the disruption this may have caused and sincerely thank our neighbours and surrounding communities for their understanding during this time.”
Once Stages 1 and 2 are complete, Wambo Wind Farm will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 312,000 homes, supporting our industrial and commercial customers and feeding energy into the National Electricity Market.
