  • Seven new apprentices and trainees kick start their careers at Tarong power stations during National Apprenticeship Week 2026.

  • Over the past five years, Stanwell has welcomed 74 apprentices and trainees through its development program, strengthening Queensland’s future workforce.

  • The Apprenticeship and Trainee program gives jobseekers the hands-on experience needed for a successful career in the energy industry while completing qualifications through TAFE.

Stanwell has welcomed seven new local apprentices and trainees to Tarong power stations, reinforcing its commitment to developing the next generation of skilled energy workers across regional Queensland.

The 2026 intake includes four new local apprentices and three new local trainees across a range of key roles vital to the future of the energy industry, including mechanical fitter, electrician, business administration, and laboratory techniques traineeships.

Stanwell’s Apprenticeship and Trainee Program provides jobseekers with hands-on industry experience while completing formal qualifications through TAFE Queensland. The program combines practical on‑the‑job learning with structured training aligned to industry standards.

With strong program outcomes including transition into permanent roles and increasing representation of women in trades, the program is a key contributor to developing a diverse and capable future-ready workforce.

Stanwell General Manager Southern Generation, Mick Joy, said the program offers hands-on learning that gives early career workers an authentic understanding of how Stanwell’s operations keep the lights on for Queensland.

“The program exposes apprentices and trainees to real operational scenarios from the moment they walk through the door. They are learning on the tools, asking questions, and being guided by experienced energy professionals,” Mr Joy said.

“Building a capable, future-ready workforce is critical for the long-term success of Queensland’s energy system.

“This program allows young Queenslanders to build long-term careers close to home, contribute to regional growth, and help ensure our power stations continue to be supported by people who understand and care about our community.”

Jasmine Whye, a trainee in Stanwell’s 2025 intake, said the program encourages participants to embrace new challenges while receiving genuine mentorship.

“Since starting the program, I’ve been able to rotate through different projects and teams, which has been exciting as every week brings something new to learn.

“I’ve built new skills and discovered career pathways I didn’t know existed before joining Stanwell. The program is both rewarding and empowering.”

Stanwell’s program continues to invest in local talent, offering young Queenslanders meaningful career pathways.

If you’re considering an Apprenticeship or Traineeship with Stanwell, applications for the 2027 intake will be opening later this year.
