New partnership with Neoen drives the winds of Mount Hopeful
Stanwell Corporation has signed a 15-year deal with global renewable energy producer Neoen for a 215 MW offtake from the Mount Hopeful Wind Farm. Stanwell and Neoen have also agreed to explore further partnership opportunities in Queensland.
Mount Hopeful Wind Farm will generate 330 MW of clean energy and create approximately 220 construction jobs, with up to 12 ongoing operational and maintenance roles.
Approximately 50kms south of Rockhampton, near the towns of Mount Morgan and Bajool, the project is strategically located within the Central Renewable Energy Zone and is near the Stanwell Power Station site.
Construction is planned to commence in August 2023, with first generation expected in 2026.
Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke said Mount Hopeful Wind Farm was one of a number of strategic partnerships the corporation was pursuing that supports its diversification strategy and contributes to the objectives of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.
“In partnership with Neoen, Stanwell is continuing to support Queensland’s renewable energy future, ensuring opportunities arising from the project provide benefits for Queensland’s communities, workers and the economy,” said Mr O’Rourke.
Managing Director of Neoen Australia Louis de Sambucy said Mount Hopeful Wind Farm was made up of wind turbines that would generate enough clean energy to power around 240,000 homes.
“We are delighted to sign our first agreement with Stanwell,” said Mr de Sambucy.
“Neoen has enjoyed rapid growth in Queensland over the past few years, with Mount Hopeful becoming our third project in the state.
“We look forward to delivering energy jobs, clean energy, and to making a further contribution to the Queensland Government’s target of 50 per cent renewables by 2030.”
